Judi Purcell
November 17, 1954 - November 5, 2002

Judi Purcell was an avid motorcyclist and loved teaching others to share her enthusiasm for riding. After we lost Judi to a serious illness in November 2002, the ABATE State Board of Directors voted to create a scholarship to honor her years of teaching others to learn to ride. Judi’s memory lives on in those who benefit from this scholarship.

ABATE awards four scholarships per year, quarterly. Applicants are asked to fill out the application and return it with a short essay stating why this scholarship would be beneficial to them.

Candidates must be at least 15 years of age and currently hold a driver’s license or driver’s instructional permit. Successful candidates agree, by submitting the application, to provide and wear the proper riding gear in class session (ABATE will supply only the motorcycle and helmet). Successful candidates also agree, if asked, to grant an interview with an ABATE Representative after completion of the course for purposes of publication in the Colorado Spokesman. Photos may be requested.

Scholarships may be returned to the ABATE office by mail, email ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) or fax.  Your application will be reviewed by a committee. Successful candidates will be notified by phone or email and instructed as to how to sign up for the class.
