Leg Team Update 5/9/2026
5/9/26
There are only 5 days left in the Regular Session of the 75th General Assembly and there of bills still needing to move through the process. This week I’m reporting the numbers a different way dealing only with transportation issues. In the Senate there were a total of 193 bills introduced. Of those only 11 were transportation issues: 6 have passed through the legislative process with 2 signed by the Governor and 3 awaiting his signature; 1 has been PI; and 4 are still in the process.
In the process, (maybe not a direct concern to motorcyclists but still important to Coloradoans):
SB26-003 (End of life of Electric vehicle batteries) needs to pass the H-APP Committee and 2 readings in the House.
SB26-035 (Increase of Traffic Violation Penalties) needs 2 readings in the House.
SB26-072 (Increased Penalty for Vehicular Homicide & Assault) needs full passage in the House.
In the House 433 bills were introduced with 17 concerning transportation issues: 7 of those have passed through the process but none signed yet; 7 were PI; and 7 are still open.
Those of concern (those passed or in the process:
HB26-1079 (Drive Motorcycle Written Permission) passed and awaiting the Governor’s signature.
HB26-1127 (Reporting After a Fatal Car Crash) awaiting signature.
HB26-1286 (Automated Driving Systems Commercial Vehicles) needs the full House process.
I’m leaving for the Bikers Inside the Beltway – National Motorcycle Lobby Day – on Tuesday,5/12, and with session ending on Wednesday, 5/13, I don’t know when my next update will appear. I usually report a final summary of all the bills, but we’ll see if that happens this year.
I do have 7 confirmed Congressional meetings but still working on the last 3. Lastly, thanks again to those ABATE members who showed up for the reading of SJR26-024 (May is Motorcycle Safet Awareness Month) in the Senate. Didn’t get it read in the House due to a heavy schedule
